Speech & Language Therapy
Within Knowsley Central School a high priority is placed on developing and supporting pupil’s speech, language and communication (SLC) skills. In 2019 the school was accredited for being a ‘Communication Friendly School’.
Knowsley Central School accesses support from an Independent Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Sophie Crilly). Sophie currently works in school 3 days per week.
Sophie works jointly and collaboratively will all teaching staff to ensure they incorporate language & communication strategies into everyday teaching practice. The school aims to provide a ‘whole school approach’ in supporting and promoting pupil’s language and communication skills.
Sophie works across all key stages; providing specialist advice, high-quality training, diagnostic assessments and direct therapy. Teaching staff are also actively involved in supporting pupil’s SLC needs via a programme/targets recommended by the SALT.
The school have 3 dedicated Communication Lead Practitioners (CLP), and 2 Teaching Assistants (TA) who have a designated role in SLC support across the whole school. These staff have received enhanced training in SLC.
Developing and promoting pupil’s communication skills within school and home, and liaising closely with both parents and teaching staff ensures pupils have the opportunity to access a differentiated curriculum, maximize their potential for learning and development, and participate positively in the school and wider community.
