Outdoor Learning
At Knowsley Central we value the importance of learning in our local community and endeavour to give our children as many opportunities as possible to experience different activities within the school community and beyond.
We have three outdoor trampolines, one of which will be used specifically for Rebound Therapy.
We also have access to an outdoor climbing frame and garden space within our school grounds where the children can plant seeds, care for them and watch them grow.
Children have access to visual choice boards which are in all outdoor play areas. The boards are a valuable tool to support communication and allow children to access the different equipment.
The main playground is split into four areas, quiet space, imagination station, sensory circuit and the games place. There is also an area for children to play football and basket ball. Another engaging area for our children is the large sandpit and sand kitchen. Children love to swing and we have the luxury of two swings. On the school field there is an adventure play area, which consists of a climbing frame and slide.
At Knowsley Central our children have the opportunity to visit a number of places in and around our community. We have weekly sessions at a local swimming pool for key stage 2 children. There are regular opportunities for children to attend sporting events and competitions.
Children also participate in a number of Educational visits linked to their curriculum theme, such as visits to a nearby synagogue, cathedral, zoo, safari park, museum, food banks, supermarkets and drama productions. They also have opportunities to develop their independence and life skills by visiting local shops.
There are a number of outside areas attached to individual classrooms that are used to expand learning outside of the classroom.
